For those of you who aren’t familiar with palladium, here are a few facts about this unique metal that is not only affordable, but durable and sensitive to your skin!

•	Palladium was discovered in 1803 and is part of the platinum family.
•	The majority of palladium used in jewelry in the United States is mined in Montana by the Stillwater Mining Company, known for its green mining.
•	Although more rare than platinum, palladium is less expensive than both platinum and gold.
•	Palladium is naturally white and since there are no alloys mixed in, like nickel, it is sensitive to skin and requires no plating upkeep like white gold.
•	As durable as platinum, palladium is the perfect choice for wedding rings or pieces that will have a lot of wear. It’s toughness also means your stones are less likely to come loose in their strong settings.
•	Palladium is very lightweight and great for bigger pieces like statement earrings.

I am thrilled to be able to offer my pieces in palladium. For more information visit the Palladium Alliance International and look for Noelle Leone designs in their gallery. If you have any questions or specific requests, feel free to contact us.

Once you have reached your destination and you are staying in a hotel room you can ideally keep your jewelry in your in room safe or some hotels will have safe-deposit box at the front desk. Use your discretion and carry your jewelry in your purse if you are weary of leaving it behind. Make sure it is always closed and in your possession. When you are done wearing a particular piece return it with the same care you first placed it there. Also, keep track of your jewelry by counting the total pieces a couple of times a day. Avoid making yourself a target to thieves, i.e., Rosie O’Donnell on Nip/Tuck. Accessorize appropriately – don’t wear flashy pieces if you don’t want the attention that comes with it. If something does get misplaced or stolen, it is easier to narrow down its location or time of the incident when you are aware of it throughout the day. Happy and safe travels!!

My favorite way to travel with my personal jewelry is with a jewelry roll. They are often made of velveteen or leather, come in a variety of sizes, and can be purchased online. I prefer a small combination roll for a short trip. If you are traveling with larger cuffs or watches, they also have hard cylinder cases that will protect the shape of your pieces. This being said, I find that packing jewelry is often left until the last minute so I have some personal techniques that get the job done without the roll. If in a time crunch, try individually rolling each piece in tissue and then placing them each into their own small ziploc bags or your Noelle Leone packaging. Then place the bags in a padded cosmetics case to stay organized. This may seem barbaric to some but it is a lot better than tossing a handful of jewelry into the bottom of your purse. Remember that diamonds scratch everything, including other diamonds, so take special care that all diamond pieces are packaged separately, including individual earrings.
Make sure you have on record all of the pieces you are taking with you. If you decide to take pieces that are higher priced or irreplaceable, which I don’t recommend, take detailed photographs of them and make sure you have an appraisal. With metal and diamond prices always going up, it is important that your appraisals and insurance are current.
No matter how you are traveling make sure you keep the bag your jewelry is by your side at all times. This means no bellhops, no overhead compartments, and no checked baggage.
Some airports are more uptight than others but the following has been my experience. Most jewelry can be worn through the metal detector. I would take off chunkier pieces like pieces from the Leone Collection or the bigger cuffs or layered pieces. When I recently went through one of the new body scanners, Security told me to take off all jewelry including my watch. However, they let me hold my jewelry in my hand. If you have jewelry in your carry on, make sure you stay with your bag until it enters the x-ray machine and then on the other side for security reasons. If Security wants to search your bag for whatever reason and you don’t want your jewelry stash on full display, you can request to have your search done in a private room.
Please feel free to share your thoughts and stay tuned for Traveling with Jewelry Part 3!
I like to travel and you know I have to bring my jewelry with me wherever I go*. When traveling with my jewelry I like to think of it as a three step process: choosing the right pieces to bring, packing them well and keeping them safe.
What to Bring
When selecting your pieces think of versatility. You want to choose pieces that can compliment a casual day look and accent a formal night. The infinity bands, like the Double Scroll Ring, are offered with one half with diamonds and the other without so you can simply rotate your ring and get an entirely new look fitting for any occasion. The same is true of most pendants, like the Double Scroll Pendant, that have a finished back so you can wear the pendant backwards with no diamonds to have a more casual look. You can also pack a colorful satin ribbon to use instead of the chain to create an entirely new look for less than a dollar.
My suggestion is to create different looks by mixing and matching different pieces. I like to have one statement (larger) piece per type. So one statement earring and one pair of studs, one statement ring and one smaller ring. You can also play around with stacking rings (shown above), and so on. You end up with around eight pieces with a great variety of unique looks.
Avoid taking irreplaceable pieces with you and make sure your insurance covers the pieces you do decide to take along.
Please feel free to share your thoughts and stay tuned for Traveling with Jewelry Part 2!
*Please note that when I travel for sales purposes I always ship my pieces by armored vehicle for security reasons.
